CBIS Global Brings Ethical Money Management and Competitive Returns to Catholic Institutions Worldwide

June 8, 2009:  Christian Brothers Investment Services (CBIS), Inc., a leader in investment management for Catholic institutions, today announced the launch of CBIS Global Funds plc. Under the oversight of CBIS, this new entity has been organized in Ireland to serve Catholic institutional investors in the European Union and beyond.

With the launch of CBIS Global Funds comes the introduction of four new UCITS (Undertakings for Collective Investments in Transferable Securities) funds, designed to provide Catholic institutions with a disciplined approach to ethical investing that integrates social and ethical teachings without sacrificing investment performance. The UCITS’ structure positions each of the funds to be recognized throughout the European Union on the basis of a single authorization from one member state—in this case, Ireland.

CBIS Global Funds’ four new Funds—the European Short-Term Government Bond Fund, the Global Bond Fund, the European Equity Fund, and the Global Equity Fund—all seek to provide Catholic institutions with the ability to achieve their financial goals through the ethical management of their investments. CBIS Global’s mission is to enable clients to maintain and promote their ministries of today, and be financially prepared to support their ministries of tomorrow without sacrificing performance or their convictions.

“Catholic institutions in Europe and around the world have long expressed tremendous interest in integrating their values into their investments.  CBIS Global will enable these institutions to invest according to their principles, while still maintaining the high level of institutional investment expertise necessary to fund their missions,” said Br. Louis DeThomasis, President of CBIS Global, the European division of CBIS, Inc.

The four Euro-denominated institutional funds offer diversified global equity and fixed-income exposure with various levels of risk resulting in a comprehensive suite of investment vehicles that all have ethical investment strategies.

  • The European Short-Term Government Bond Fund seeks to provide current income consistent with the preservation of capital by investing in income-producing instruments backed by European governments.
  • The Global Bond Fund seeks to provide sustainable income with modest capital appreciation by investing in primarily investment-grade sovereign, supranational, corporate and mortgage debt securities, including securitizations.
  • The European Equity Fund focuses exclusively on European markets and seeks capital appreciation by investing in European equities with market capitalization greater than €65 million ($102+ million USD).
  • The Global Equity Fund seeks capital appreciation through investment in equity securities of medium- to large-capitalization companies worldwide. It focuses primarily on companies with a market cap greater than 350 million euros in major developed markets.
Of these, the European Short-Term Government Bond Fund and the Global Equity Fund have commenced investment.  CBIS anticipates that the Global Bond Fund and the European Equity Fund will commence investment by the end of 2009.

“CBIS Global Funds will also be able to tap into the expertise of Christian Brothers Investment Services, the promoter of CBIS Global Funds,” said Br. Michael O’Hern, President and Chief Executive Officer of CBIS.  “Over the course of its 25-year history, CBIS has established itself as a leader in Catholic institutional investing in the United States.  We’re thrilled to be able to extend that legacy worldwide.”

The press release above is for informational purposes only and does not constitute an offer to sell any investment. The funds are not available for sale in all jurisdictions. Where available for sale, an offer will only be made through the prospectus for the funds, and the funds may only be sold in compliance with all applicable country and local laws and regulations.
