CBIS And Members of the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility (ICCR) Applaud Wyndham Worldwide for Signing Tourism Code of Conduct Against Sexual Exploitation

ICCR members, including CBIS, congratulated Wyndham Worldwide for its leadership as the most recent signatory to the Tourism Child-Protection Code of Conduct (The Code). While The Code has been signed by more than 1,000 travel industry members worldwide, Wyndham, one of the world’s largest hospitality companies, is only the fifth U.S. company to join.

Julie Tanner, Assistant Director of Socially Responsible Investing at Christian Brothers Investment Services, who leads the ICCR dialogue with Wyndham, said, “By signing The Code, Wyndham is demonstrating to stakeholders and shareholders the seriousness with which it is working to prevent incidents of child sex tourism.”

Sr. Valerie Heinonen, OSU, Director of Shareholder Advocacy for Mercy Investment Services, Inc., a recent recipient of ICCR’s Legacy Award for Outstanding Service in Corporate Social Responsibility, said: “Wyndham has engaged with faith-based investors over the past five years and included repudiation of child sexual exploitation in its human rights policy since 2007. While some hotel companies with franchised properties have shied away from signing The Code believing it is too difficult to implement, Wyndham, with 7,300 franchised hotels, has shown that it is not only possible, but will be beneficial to the company.”
